We’ve Moved – Welcome to the New Lyn’s Crafts

That’s right, we have completed our move to our new home in the cloud. The Amazon Cloud. Our new site is up and running, and ready for you to check out.

The Technical Stuff – hubby loves this stuff.

You may have noticed a new URL – https://lynscraftsyarns.com this is the new location of the site. Don’t worry, if you go to https://lynscrafts.com you will be redirected to the new site.

So why all of the hype about moving your site? In a word, capabilities. By moving the site to the amazon cloud we are able to provide much better performance, cheaper than our original low cost hosting site. The main issue we had with the other hosting company was that, any time we drew a lot of traffic they would slow us down. That is right. The more popular we became the slower our site ran. With Amazon, if we need a boost in performance, because we are running a popular sale, they will boost our performance, not slow us down. Hopefully you have noticed how quickly the new site performs. We hope that it will make your browsing and shopping more enjoyable.

The other big change is that we are now using WordPress with WooCommerce, instead of PrestaShop. WordPress is a content management and blog system while WooCommerce is an eCommerce plugin. If you don’t know what that the means don’t worry about it. Just know, that the combination of the two will allow us to better present our content. For you, that means easier browsing, specially on mobile devices. Nearly half of our traffic comes from mobile devices, so having a system that supports mobile improves our customers experience.

Free Patterns, easy access.

One of the biggest complaints we got from our old site was, “Why do I have to create an account and give you my personal information just to get a free pattern”? The answer was, “because that is how the software worked”. Well, now you don’t have to register, and go thru the checkout process to download a free pattern. Now, just find the pattern you want, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the download button. That’s it. Easy Peasy.

All of our patterns are distributed as PDF files so you must have a PDF viewer to view it.

The return of PayPal

Next to the complaints about downloading free patterns, was our lack of PayPal support. An update to our old site broke the PayPal integration and we were never able to get it work again. We had to switch to Brinks 2CO payment processing to continue to accept payments. Well now, our new site supports PayPal with a well written integration. So if you prefer PayPal it is up and running, and ready for use.

The Stripe Payment Gateway

For customers who prefer to use a debit or credit card without going through PayPal, we now use the Stripe Payment gateway. Stripe, like 2CO is a large eCommerce payment processor that offers secure payment processing across the internet. Stripe also offers customers the ability to save their payment information for faster checkouts. Please note: your payment information is not, and never will be, stored in the Lyn’s Crafts database. If you choose this option your information is stored by Stripe in their secure facilities.

Yarn Store Products, Customers and Orders

To make the transition to the new site as seamless as possible we worked with an outside vendor to migrate our products, customers and orders from the old sight to the new one. If you ordered yarn, thread, or accessories from us your order records were moved to the new site.  If you ordered a paid pattern your order record was moved but the link to the pattern will not work. If you need to download another copy of the pattern please email us and, after confirming your order, we will send you a link to the new location for the patterns.

So as you can see, we have been very busy improving our site, to provide you with a better browsing and shopping experience. Tell us what you like about the site, and what you think we can improve, in the comments section below this post.

Please like us on Facebook and share this post with your friends. We are looking forward to bringing more new features to you in the coming months.
